BECOME: Free from Binge Eating

A 6-Month Group Programme with Dr. Beverley Marais.
The Eating Disorder Psychologist

Why this group exists

If you’re here, you may know what it feels like to:

  • Eat in secret, then feel guilt or shame.

  • Be trapped between restriction and bingeing, starting over again and again.

  • Feel like food takes up far too much space in your life.

  • Wonder if you’ll ever be “normal” around food.

You are not alone. And you are not broken.

Binge eating isn’t a personal failure, it’s a coping strategy that once served a purpose, but now keeps you stuck.

This programme exists to give you a safe place, practical tools, and ongoing support so you can break free from that cycle and find calm, confidence, and freedom.

Why 6 months?

Because real recovery takes patience. Change doesn’t happen in a straight line. There are ups and downs, and that’s normal. This programme gives you the space to learn, practice, stumble, and try again without ever feeling like you’ve failed. Over 6 months, you’ll have steady support and a community to return to whenever you need it.

BECOME: is a 6-month group programme

Frequently asked questions

▸ What if I relapse during the programme?

Lapses and relapses are a normal part of recovery. The programme helps you respond with compassion and resilience, not judgement, and shows you how to get back on track without starting over.

▸ I’ve tried everything before — will this really work for me?

This programme isn’t about diet or willpower. It’s grounded in psychological science and focuses on the root causes of binge eating, creating lasting change rather than quick fixes.

▸ Why is this programme 6 months long?

Real change takes time. Six months gives you space to learn, practise, and build resilience, while normalising setbacks and providing ongoing support.

▸ What if I can’t make every live call?

All calls are recorded and available to watch later, so you won’t miss out. Many participants still benefit greatly from the replays.

“Recovery is not about perfection, but about reclaiming your freedom, one gentle step at a time.”

Relief can come quickly. Stability takes time.
The courage is in staying long enough for both

The programme runs for six months for a very important reason. Most people begin to feel real relief around the three to four-month mark. The binge episodes soften, food feels less chaotic, and there is more emotional clarity.

But those early changes are not the end of the work. They are the beginning. The rest of the programme is where we steady things, deepen the emotional work, and help the new patterns become part of your everyday life — not something that slips away when stress comes back.

Sixth-month Review

Towards the end of the six months, we schedule a one-to-one reflection call. This conversation is designed to help you consolidate what you have learned, reflect on what feels more stable, and identify what still needs support.

Together, we then explore next steps which may include continuing in the programme, stepping into a different form of support, or moving forward independently. There is no expectation or pressure to continue; the focus is on what feels most supportive for you.

You are committing to a six-month container because this work deserves time and safety. If you ever reached a point where you truly felt complete earlier, we would talk about that together with honesty and care. My priority is always your wellbeing, not keeping you in a programme if it does not feel right for you.

But the intention of this programme is long-term, lasting change — not a quick fix. And the full six months allow us to do this work in a calm, steady, sustainable way.
